Congratulations to Marty Sanders and Norman Smith on winning our inaugural Match-Up Doubles held at Lodge Lanes. Sanders and Smith defeated Mike Kereluk and Larry Walker 414-406 to take home the title. This was Sanders second SSO win, while Smith earned his first SSO title. The title match looked like a runaway until both Sanders and Smith opened in the 10th frame. Walker struck out in the 10th giving Kereluk a chance to win with a double. Mike got the first strike but left a 4 pin on his second shot ending the come back.
We had 74 bowlers for this event. Qualifying was led by Gerald Johnson with 1423 followed by Brad Gray with 1418. This meant these two teamed up the doubles portion of the elimination rounds. Johnson and Gray received a bye in the first round, but were eliminated in the second round.
The field averaged 206 during qualifying. Pat Bentley was the last man in for the Senior (S) group with a score of 1329, while the Super Senior (SS), Super Super Senior (SSS) and Ladies cut score was 1296 by Larry Salvati. Chris Dunson had the high score of the tournament with a 299 in game 2 of qualifying.
Thank you to Bob Goike and his great staff at Lodge Lanes for hosting the SSO. The SSO would also like to thank our staff and our sponsors; Ebonite Bowling Products, Red Robin, Beyond Boarders, Turbo 2 in 1 Grips, Hamtramck Singles Classic, A.M.
